Kids Contest

Kids (12 and under) costume contest will be held Sunday afternoon at: 3:00 PM

Entrants in the Kids Division should show up 20 minutes before their contest for a “relaxed rules” celebration of cosplay!

All kids’ competitors should have a parent guardian present at the contest.

All kids’ competitors must be pre-registered online.
Adults Contest

Each contestant must have a badge to the convention and adhere to the convention’s costume and prop policies.

All costumes in the adult division must be at least 75% handmade or altered/modified.

Each contestant in the adult division must provide a 1-page BUILD SHEET upon Sunday Contest Check-in. Blank build sheets will be available day-of or can be downloaded through the link provided.

*A cosplay build-book is also acceptable for build sheet requirements. Build-books must be in hard copy form.

You must specify your level of craftsmanship and enter the appropriate category when registering. A guide for knowing your level is below the rules.

Contestants can always choose to compete in a level higher than their current level. Cosplay or costuming professionals should not compete in this contest.**

Cosplay manager, contest judges, host, or appropriately assigned parties may place you in a higher category based on your skill level, if deemed appropriate.

Each entrant in the Adult Division must pre-register for the contest.

QR codes for contest registration will be available at Cosplay Row (located on the Convention Center 3rd Floor).

Registration remains open during show hours, with a cut off at 12:00pm on Sunday, or when the competition is full.

Each entrant must register and compete as an individual. Duos and groups are not permitted.

There will be a cap for # contestants per division. It is a best practice to register for the contest as soon as possible to guarantee your spot.

Entrants in the Adult Division must be onsite, in costume, and must check-in at the cosplay contest location beginning at 2:00pm.

Failure to arrive on-time for check-in can result in removal from the contest.

Failure to check-in will result in immediate disqualification.

Failure to provide the needed information and build sheet will result in immediate disqualification.

If you need any assistance, you may have one person to help you. Please include this information in your registration form.

No nudity and no profanity, up to and including messages on signs, bad language or clothes. Remember: this is a family friendly show!
For safety reasons the following must be adhered:

No projectiles of any kind (darts, pellets, water, etc), aerosol spray, pyrotechnics like fire, smoke, vapes or fireworks.

No scattering of items on stage (glitter, streamers, papers, etc)
-
No jumping off or on the stage.
-
No mess is to be left on stage after your presentation - all items brought on stage must leave the stage with you.

No specific audio will be played for each contestant.

Violators of any of these rules may be disqualified from the contest.

Entry into the event is at the discretion of the event staff and reserves the right to reject ANY entrant who does not adhere to these rules or whose costume is in violation of them.

Wow the audience! Surprise the judges! Do not surprise the contest host or the cosplay manager.

Intentional changes or additions of unplanned, unpracticed, unscripted, or unknown elements to the cosplay contest will not be tolerated. This is for the safety of all competitors, attendees, guests, staff, and volunteers.

Prizes will consist of a Best Novice, Best Intermediate, Best Master, and Best in Show award.
Levels**

Novice – A cosplayer who has never entered a contest, or a cosplayer who has not won an award of any kind in any cosplay competition at the adult level.

Intermediate – A cosplayer who has won one (1) but less than three (3) awards of any kind in adult competition such as Best Costume, Best Skit, Best Workmanship, First Place, etc., and has not won a "Best in Show" or "Best in Class" award or has not won any kind of award at the Master level; including Judge’s Awards while competing at master level.

Master – A cosplayer who has won three (3) or more awards in an adult costume/cosplay competition or has won one (1) or more "Best in Show" or "Best in Class" award, or has won any kind of award at the Master level.
**Professional cosplayers, costume crafters, and/or prop builders should not compete in this event. For this competitive event professional is defined as:

80% or more of full-time income is through cosplay/costuming, up-to and including commissions, YouTube monetization, cosplay guest appearances, or published works, and/or full-time work as an in-house sewer, in-house prop builder, or in-house costumer, etc.

Cosplay competitors who are reasonably unsure of their professional status per the examples given above are expected to compete at the Master Level and will be approved to compete solely at the discretion of the Judges.

RICC staff, celebrities, vendors or cosplay guests are prohibited from entering the Cosplay Contest.
